Welcome to the Chamber of Citizens! We’ve been protecting the interests of the citizens of Maple Valley for the past 18 hours or so. Our mission is to lobby for the changes you want in Maple Valley, no matter how ridiculous or expensive they may appear to be. You won't know if you don't ask!

  Current Issues

* Door-To-Door Questionnaire (NEW!)
Put together by the Assistant Undersecretary for Public Relations (Ryan Ryals), this handy six-page, 100-question Questionnaire is essential for screening door-to-door peddlers.

If you're having trouble opening it, you'll need Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which can be found here.

* Ordinance Request #2009-0145

Proposed ordinance limiting the number of sit-down Mexican restaurants to 20.
STATUS: Currently in debate in the Restaurants: Under $20 Entrée Sub-Committee. No scheduled hearings.

* Retail Lobbying Efforts
The Committee to Persuade Trader Joe’s to Open In Maple Valley has filed its weekly report, and has updated the Chamber directors on its progress. So far, the committee members have made progress in several areas, including one instance of successfully whining about not having a Trader Joe’s in town, within earshot of an night stocking clerk at the Issaquah Trader Joe’s. The clerk apparently looked directly at the whining committee member, and resumed the shelf replenishment after the brief pause.

The committee’s next step is to slip in the phrase “I didn’t find a Trader Joe’s in Maple Valley” when the cashier asks if the member found everything they were looking for. We’ll report on their progress in the next update.

* Trail Maintenance
A Chamber member has raised awareness of undersized rocks on the Cedar River Trail, which is causing multiple instances of Shoe Pebbles. The Chamber directors are working on a draft letter to the city and county maintenance staffs, requesting that all pebbles be checked for an appropriate minimum diameter of 5 millimeters, so as not to easily fall into citizens’ shoes.
